In today’s social networking lifestyle it is not uncommon to see people with pages on just about every one of them. First we had MySpace, then Facebook and now Twitter, so what’s next and as a company do we do about employees social network activity?

In my opinion……. Encourage it!!! As a matter of fact, work with it!!!!

Set up a company Twitter account and encourage your employees to link to it, follow each other and have fun! Since Modern Vision Media started encouraging our employees to Tweet on a regular basis, we have seen a huge change; and one for the better in our eyes. Our staff interacts company wide throughout the day, productivity has actually increased and our staff is constantly laughing and having fun; even the Executive Management team has joined in.

Now all of us tweet during lunch, throughout the day we see quick tweets being posted and hear people laugh; the fun part is we all follow the tweets we make when we are away from the office. I honestly believe that a smaller-sized office that considered itself a family has actually grown together as a true family of friends who see each other with different eyes. The bond that Twitter alone has created between the entire office is special and priceless.

So the real question a company must ask itself when they review their policies on social networking is; do you want to be a company of people or a family that makes a company? And if you can see an increase in productivity and a tremendous explosion of family attitude, then take the leap and tweet!!!

Direct Mail will never be the same.
Nothing lasts forever. We’ve had a good run but only the strong will now survive. Traditional list management companies are a thing of the past. Lists and hotlines continue to grow smaller, marketing expenditures have been slashed and only the very best offers and staple products can count on continued success. All other marketers need to create a strategic marketing plan that will include new techniques never before available to them.

Creating a database of your already existing and potential new customers is a great first step. The cost of acquiring new customers is always substantial so to combat this expense the very best possible plan is to target your already existing customers. Next in line should be people who have inquired to your previous marketing efforts but have not as yet purchased. These are people who need to be contacted to close the deal. A simple phone call, a follow up letter or an email could help turn these inquiries into customers. Up sell/cross sell programs will add precious dollars to your bottom line.

Social networking is a great way to target the masses. The number of viewers is massive and will continue to grow. Web sites need to be interactive so that there is interaction between you and your potential customer. Affiliate marketing, e-mail deployment and SEO/SEM are great avenues in which to model growth to your business. Relevancy, as viewed by the leading search engines is key in determining your future success or failure. Organic search is vital and is one of the very best means in which to grow your “on-line presence”. There are costs associated with SEO/SEM but they are negligible. You will need thirty to sixty days to see the results of your SEO efforts. Paid search brings immediate results at a greater cost. Marketers need to weigh the cost of PPC advertising versus results to determine if it makes sense to “buy” keywords.

Sure it’s easy to say the times are tough. These are also exciting times. Challenges bring opportunities. But there are great opportunities to those with the insight and fortitude to lead us into the future. Explore the possibilities.

Performance-based Affiliate Networks and Publishers can make a huge difference

In today’s economy charity organizations are quickly becoming casualties of cash flow shortages from companies and individuals. So what can Affiliate Marketing do to help? We can ban together and donate our services to help them raise the much needed capital they need to operate.

Yes, I said donate!

Modern Vision Media heard of a charity group in Bakersfield, CA that was facing the loss of a home that they have been operating as a hospice and jumped at the opportunity to help them in their last hour, and we are proud to say that our efforts helped them a great deal.

Now donating the services of our Creative Services, Production and Mail-Ops on such short notice did seem like a huge undertaking at the time, but the hard work and effort that our staff put into this project was rewarding to everyone involved. We were honored to develop an entire campaign for the Bakersfield Aids Foundation to help them raise funds to save a hospice named Ricky’s Retreat.

Halfway through the creation of our campaign, we were approached by LASPI, a charitable group based in Los Angeles, CA who offered to co-sponsor the effort and assisted our email blasts by sending copies of the campaign creative to all of their friends, contacts and family members, which was a welcomed involvement.

We are pleased to say that in less than 24 hours, we were able to raise over $5,000.00 for this charity, with all profits going to the charity and all the work and email deployments being completely donated by Modern Vision Media.

In a world where life is getting rougher for everyone and companies move to protect profits and stake a claim in today’s economy, we all need to remember that there are organizations out there that can truly benefit from our industry; we just need to take a moment to remember that we can make a difference and that sometimes it is the heart of a company and its employees that sets a new standard in helping those who help others succeed.

I truly hope that other companies in our industry join with us in a mission to help others.

How can I make money using Social Networking Sites?

Over the past few years Social Networking has grown to be one of the most used media on the Internet. With millions of people linking together in Social Network mediums such as Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, Linked-In and countless others it is only wise to think of using these mediums for marketing a service or product.

MySpace and Facebook are both great examples of targeting the perfect audience for your banner advertisements. Their advertising modules are easy to use and provide a terrific cost analysis for a banner ad publisher to set budgets for each campaign and drill down to the exact audience the product is tailored towards. Using a sale to click ratio statistic, a performance-based CPA network affiliate can choose ads they want to run, drill down to the specific audience they want to see the ads, set a daily budget or, in some cases, a total run time budget and upload the banner for the advertising campaign.

One of the real skills of this social network marketing is the budget!

If you run a campaign on MySpace, for example, you can choose how much money you want to spend on a daily basis. If you choose a campaign that is paying out a CPA of $30.00 and you set your daily marketing budget at $90.00 you need to make sure your daily sales for that campaign is 4 or more sales to make profit; if targeted correctly you should hope to make 8 or more sales per day. Now if you are running 4 or 5 banner campaigns simultaneously, your earning potential can be tremendous.

The other skill of social network marketing is the audience targeting!

Knowing how to budget a CPA banner-ad campaign in social network marketing goes hand-in-hand with knowing how to target your audience. It would be useless to market a diet-aid marketing campaign in an audience geared for music. Look through the available advertising campaigns carefully, choosing 2 to 3 campaigns from several categories that have maximum targeting abilities in the social network campaign setup system and place them in the target that will provide the maximum amount of interest from the audience chosen.

You may not have great results at first, unless you are experienced at this marketing channel. If you are new to this type of advertising, choose campaigns with the highest payout and start by choosing the lowest daily advertising budget you can set based on your target audience and see what the rate of return is. If you hit a home run on the first try, increase the daily marketing budget, however, if your return does not meet expectation, try re-targeting the audience for the campaign; don’t just kill the campaign and try a new one!

Last but not least, keep an eye on your marketing efforts daily! Check your sales reports from the affiliate network and check your performance stats on the social network sites you are advertising. You will soon see that social network advertising can yield much greater results than search marketing.
