In today’s social networking lifestyle it is not uncommon to see people with pages on just about every one of them. First we had MySpace, then Facebook and now Twitter, so what’s next and as a company do we do about employees social network activity?
In my opinion……. Encourage it!!! As a matter of fact, work with it!!!!
Set up a company Twitter account and encourage your employees to link to it, follow each other and have fun! Since Modern Vision Media started encouraging our employees to Tweet on a regular basis, we have seen a huge change; and one for the better in our eyes. Our staff interacts company wide throughout the day, productivity has actually increased and our staff is constantly laughing and having fun; even the Executive Management team has joined in.
Now all of us tweet during lunch, throughout the day we see quick tweets being posted and hear people laugh; the fun part is we all follow the tweets we make when we are away from the office. I honestly believe that a smaller-sized office that considered itself a family has actually grown together as a true family of friends who see each other with different eyes. The bond that Twitter alone has created between the entire office is special and priceless.
So the real question a company must ask itself when they review their policies on social networking is; do you want to be a company of people or a family that makes a company? And if you can see an increase in productivity and a tremendous explosion of family attitude, then take the leap and tweet!!!
